A RESOLUTION: PRESENTED November 14, 2000 2000-228 ADOPTED November 14, 2000 CALLING ON THE FEDERATION FOR AMERICAN IMMIGRATION REFORM TO IMMEDIATELY STOP ITS ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN WHEREAS, the Town Council strongly objects to the Federation for American Immigration Reform's (FAIR's) television, radio and print advertising campaign, which implies a link between immigration, rapid population growth and sprawl in Loudoun County; and WHEREAS, the Town Council, and individuals on all sides of the growth issue in Loudoun, collectively find these ads to be offensive, xenophobic and misleading; and WHEREAS, these distasteful ads give the false impression that local government officials or advocates of managed, sustained growth may endorse or support the ads; and WHEREAS, Loudoun County's rapid growth, attendant challenges and eventual solutions are the subject of ongoing and spirited public dialog, which FAIR's ad campaign demeans. THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia calls on the Federation for American Immigration Reform to immediately stop its advertising campaign.
