RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION:
PRESENTED November 14, 2000
2000-228 ADOPTED November 14, 2000
CALLING ON THE FEDERATION FOR AMERICAN IMMIGRATION
REFORM TO IMMEDIATELY STOP ITS ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, the Town Council strongly objects to the Federation for American
Immigration Reform's (FAIR's) television, radio and print advertising campaign, which implies a
link between immigration, rapid population growth and sprawl in Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council, and individuals on all sides of the growth issue in
Loudoun, collectively find these ads to be offensive, xenophobic and misleading; and
WHEREAS, these distasteful ads give the false impression that local government officials
or advocates of managed, sustained growth may endorse or support the ads; and
WHEREAS, Loudoun County's rapid growth, attendant challenges and eventual solutions
are the subject of ongoing and spirited public dialog, which FAIR's ad campaign demeans.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia calls on
the Federation for American Immigration Reform to immediately stop its advertising campaign.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that
resolution to media outlets in Leesburg.
