A RESOLUTION: 2000-229 PRESENTED November 14, 2000 ADOPTED November 14, 2000 ENDORSING THE FORMATION OF THE LOUDOUN MAYORS HEALTHCARE COMMISSION AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPOINT TOWN REPRESENTATION TO THE COMMISSION WHEREAS, the healthcare needs of Leesburg and Loudoun County are growing rapidly commensurate with increases in the population; and WHEREAS, that rapid growth is straining the limited resources of the fire and rescue services; and WHEREAS, the Town Council has a continuing concern regarding the adequacy of Loudoun County Hospital's plans and programs in response to these needs; and WHEREAS, the Town Council desires to be involved in improving the health services provided to the citizens of Leesburg and Loudoun County; and WHEREAS, mayors and councils of other Loudoun towns share a concern for improved health services. THEREFORE, RESOLVED, that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia hereby endorses the formation of a Loudoun Mayors Healthcare Commission and authorizes the Mayor to appoint a representative to said Commission. FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council recommends that the composition, charge, and support of the Commission be as follows: SECTION I. Composition: Each mayor, with the concurrence of their respective council, would select a representative to serve on the Commission. This representative could be a citizen or councilperson. In addition, two additional members/representatives, -2- A RESOLUTION: ENDORSING THE FORMATION OF THE LOUDOUN MAYORS HEALTHCARE COMMISSION AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPOINT TOWN REPRESENTATION TO THE COMMISSION to be appointed by the Commission, would be non-elected citizens from eastern Loudoun County. The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is invited to appoint a representative. SECTION II. Charge: The Commission would be charged to undertake a fact-finding mission regarding the current and future healthcare needs of the residents of Loudoun County by: · Consulting with those responsible and/or capable of planning and providing excellent health care to the residents of Loudoun County. · Contacting interested and/or affected individuals and organizations to determine/develop interest in obtaining excellent health care for the area. · Conducting such public meetings as may be appropriate. Depending on the results obtained by the above actions, and other actions as the need may arise, the Commission may develop a report on initiatives that appear to be prudent. SECTION III. Support: Each town should, if possible, provide staffing and funding support. Leesburg's town manager or designee will act as coordinator of the Commission. PASSED this 14th day of November, 2000.
