With the threat of thunderstorms looming in the afternoon, crowds gathered early to see the much-anticipated landscape displays, browse the 150 vendors, rock out to the live music on the Loudoun County Courthouse lawn and play in the children’s entertainment area. As temperatures crept into the upper 70’s, the crowds continued to build throughout the day. The festival saw roughly 21,000 visitors on Saturday. Sunday, April 22nd, however was a study in contrasts as the event saw wet and breezy conditions for most of the day. Despite the less than ideal weather, several thousand visitors filled the streets to cap off the annual festival. In total, the event saw about 24,000 guests. One of the annual highlights of this event is the judged landscape competition. This year, the event featured ten area landscapers who showcased their best work. Most competitors worked through the night on Friday and into the early morning hours on Saturday to produce their masterpieces. This element of the festival is by far the most anticipated by the festival goers and this year’s landscape designs did not disappoint. The 2012 winners are: Best Overall Presentation: River’s Edge Landscape, Bluemont, VA Outstanding Technical Craftsmanship: West Winds Nursery, Sudley Springs VA Outstanding Creativity: Wildwood Landscapes, Purcellville, VA People’s Choice: River’s Edge Landscape, Bluemont, VA (more) TOL PR 2012-04-23 Flower & Garden Festival Results Page 2 The Flower and Garden Festival is Leesburg’s unofficial start to the spring season, so be sure to mark your calendar for April 20th and 21st, 2013, and join the Town of Leesburg for the 23rd annual festival - “it’s an annual event but a perennial experience!” To see photos from the festivities, including the winning landscape displays, check out the event’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/flowerandgarden.
