CODE,1997 UNIFORM CODE FOR THE ABATEMENT OF DANGEROUS BUILDINGS AND
AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS INSTITUTE 117.I-2009
WHEREAS, Moab City, Utah, (City) desires to adopt the International Code Council family of
International Codes in order to establish the minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety
and general welfare through structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, adequate
light and ventilation, energy conservation, and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards
attributed to the built environment and to provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during
emergency operations; and
WHEREAS, the same codes have provided minimal standards to ensure that structures in the City are
constructed in such a manner as to be safe and retain value; and
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Moab ("Council") does ordain as follows:
Section 1. That certain documents, copies of which are on file and are open for inspection of the public in
the office of the Moab City Recorder and being marked and designated as:
The 2012 International Building Code plus appendices G and J, 2012 International Residential Code,
2012 International Plumbing Code plus appendix C, 2012 International Fuel Gas Code, 2012 International
Energy Conservation Code, 2012 International Property Maintenance Code, 2012 International Fire
Code, published by International Code Council Inc., 2008 National Electrical Code, published by
National Fire Protection Association, 1997 Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings
published by International Conference of Building Officials and the American National Standards for
Accessibility and Useable Buildings and Facilities, American National Standards Institute' 17.1-2009
published by the Council of American Building Officials as modified by the 2012 International Building
Code referenced herein:
The above mentioned are hereby adopted as the code of the City of Moab, Utah for regulating the
erection, construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving, removal, demolition, conversion,
occupancy, equipment, use, height, area and maintenance of all buildings or structures in the City of
Moab providing for issuance of permits and collection of fees therefore;
Section 2. A violation of any provision of this ordinance is a class B misdemeanor, unless otherwise
provided.
Section 3. That all other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 4. That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance is, for any reason,
held to be invalid or unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of the
remaining portions of this ordinance. The Moab City Council hereby declares that if one or more of these
sections, subsections, clauses or phrases shall be declared unconstitutional, that all other sections, etc.
shall remain in full force and effect,
Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage,
PASSED AND ADOPTED by action of the Governing Body of the City of Moab in open session this
