RESOLUTION NO. 2001-6 ADOPTED January 9, 2001
A RESOLUTION: AMENDING THE 2001 LEGISLATIVE PROGRAM ADOPTED ON OCTOBER 31,
2000.
WHEREAS, the Route 7/15 Bypass is a major element of Leesburg's transportation system; and
WHEREAS, future improvements to Route 7/15 Bypass are already included in the Virginia
Department of Transportation Six-Year Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council adopted its 2001 Legislative Program (Resolution No. 2000-215)
on October 31, 2000 including an item requesting $435,000 in highway funds to help expedite the start of
the design phase of the Sycolin Road/Route 7/15 Bypass Widening Project; and
WHEREAS, on December 14, 2000, the Transportation Coordinating Council of Northern
Virginia earmarked $640,000 toward the design of the project; and
WHEREAS, given the Transportation Coordinating Council's action, the town staff recommends
pursuing construction funds from the General Assembly for the project in the amount of $15 million.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that Section D
of Resolution No. 2000-215, its 2001 Legislative Program, be amended to read as follows:
D. Sycolin Road/Route 7/15 Bypass Widening Project. Appropriate $435,000 in highway funds
to help expedite the start of the design phase of the project that would widen the Route 7/15 Bypass to six
lanes from Route 7 to Route 15, complete the Route 15 and Route 7/15 Bypass Interchange, and add
pedestrian and bike accommodations. Appropriate $15 million in highway funds towards the Project.
