HomeMy Public PortalAbout2001_02_27_r027 The Town of lleesburg, '-Virginia PRESENTED February 27. 2001 RESOLUTION NO. 2001-27 ADOPTED February 27.2001 A RESOLUTION: ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE BALCH LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMISSION WITH REFERENCE TO ROOM NAMINGS AT THOMAS BALCH LIBRARY WHEREAS, the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library submitted the following recommendations to the Balch Library Advisory Commission for naming of rooms at the library: ',- . The west reading room in the original building for the historian, John Devine . The east reading room in the original building for former Governor Westmoreland Davis . The principal room in the center of the original building for Howard Willard Clark, Sf., a prominent African American citizen in Loudoun County . The informal reading room in the new building for the 19th century Loudoun County lawyer and political leader, John Janney . The reference hall in the new building for a very prominent female reformer, Margaret Mercer . The archive room in the new building for the Rust Family for their strong support of the library and their contribution to strengthen the acquisition program; and WHEREAS, the Balch Library Advisory Commission endorsed the recommended room namings proposed by the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library on February 14,2001; and WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Council desires to honor these individuals who have greatly contributed to life in Leesburg and Loudoun County and/or to the library; and THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. The principal rooms of the Thomas Balch Library shall be named as follows: '--- . The west reading room in the original building for the historian, John Devine .
