RESOLUTION NO. 2001-34
RESOLUTION:
ENDORSING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A REGIONAL PARK FOR
CENTRAL LOUDOUN BY THE COUNTY OF LOUDOUN ON THE
SHELLHORN PROPERTY
WHEREAS, in the fall of 2001, the County of Loudoun will consider a bond referendum,
in part, for the development of a central Loudoun park site on the Shellhorn property; and
WHEREAS, development of a central Loudoun park on the Shellhorn property is vital to
the residents in the southwest quadrant of Leesburg and Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, currently there are limited parks and recreation amenities in the southwest
quadrant of Leesburg and Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, development of a central Loudoun park on the Shellhorn property will

benefit all of Leesburg, as well as the residents of Leesburg and Loudoun County living in the
southwest quadrant of the town and county; and
WHEREAS, the Leesburg Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission endorses the
development of a regional park for central Loudoun by the County of Loudoun on the Shellhorn
property; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Leesburg endorses the
development of a regional park for central Loudoun by the County of Loudoun on the Shellhorn
property; and
WHEREAS, the Shellhorn Master Plan, once completed, will assist county voters in
deciding to support the referendum.

A RESOLUTION: SHELLHORN PROPERTY
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows:
SECTION I. The Leesburg Town Council supports the County's proposed 2001 bond
referendum for the development of a central Loudoun park site to include a minimum of nine
athletic fields on the Shellhorn property.
SECTION II. The Leesburg Town Council encourages the Board of Supervisors to
complete the Shellhorn Master Plan with input from the Town of Leesburg prior to the proposed
2001 bond referendum.
PASSED this 13th day of March 2001.
