'",--- irglnla PRESENTED March 27. 2001 RESOLUTION NO. 2001-38 ADOPTED March 27, 2001 A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF THE THOMAS BALCH LIBRARY FORA 2001 NATIONAL TRUST PRESERVATION AWARD. WHEREAS, the Thomas Balch Library was built in 1922 and has served as a public library since that time, the Town of Leesburg having assumed operation of the building in 1994; and WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg completed its major renovation and expansion in 2000; and WHEREAS, the renovation and expansion of the Balch building is a perfect example of the preservation and use of an older building; and WHEREAS, the Balch Library Commission and library staff supports the application; and WHEREAS, the award application is a joint project of the library staff, the planning department, and Bowie-Gridley Architects, the project's architectural firm. THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg III Virginia enthusiastically supports the application of the Thomas Balch Library for a 2001 National Trust Preservation Award.
