There will be an artist’s reception at 6:00 p.m. The Leesburg Town Exhibit Hall is located on the first floor of the Leesburg Town Hall at 25 West Market Street in downtown Leesburg. Jim Stewart has been photographing since 1975, but only recently began to apply his art commercially. For over 30 years, he created black and white photographs in a traditional wet darkroom. Like many of his generation, studying monochrome landscapes by well-known 20th Century greats helped Jim understand how light, exposure, development, and creativity in the darkroom can merge to produce beautiful images full of light and depth and story. More recently, Jim has concentrated on incorporating color in his artwork, mastering the emotional value of hue and contrasts in conjunction with the attributes of natural light and depth in traditional monochrome photography. Jim retired from Federal Service in 1999 after more than 30 years in medical technology research and development. He continued to follow his passion in photography, and decided to make that passion a full-time enterprise in 2010, when he began doing business as J Riley Stewart Fine Art Photography in Leesburg, Virginia. He specializes in landscape photography and offers scenics that provide the viewer a sense of "standing at the bottom edge of the frame, only having to take one step to find themselves in the midst of the beauty – or the danger, as the case may be." His technical and artistic approaches allow him to create large wall-sized images that can literally “fill a room” with beauty. Many of the photographs feature luminous landscapes from Loudoun County and surrounding areas, in all seasons. The exhibit will be on display until July 21, 2012. The Leesburg Town Exhibit Hall was established by the Leesburg Commission on Public Art in December 2009 to provide a public venue for local artists to display their work.
