HomeMy Public PortalAbout2001_05_08_r067The Town of l eesburg, rg nta RESOLUTION NO. 2001-67 PRESENTED ADOPTED May 8, 2001 May 8, 2001 A RESOLUTION: ESTABLISHING A TOWN FACILITY NAMING POLICY WHEREAS, from time to time the Town of Leesburg wishes to formally name town-owned facilities such as parks, buildings, rooms in buildings, and streets; and WHEREAS, the town recognizes the sensitivity and potential embarrassment an honoree may have if an unsolicited name is suggested but not accepted; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Council, to reserve unto itself the prerogative of deciding what name to select; and WHEREAS, it is the preference of the Council not to formally receive the suggestions from town commissions, although any member of a commission or a citizen is free to offer suggestions to any or all members of the Council. THEREFORE, RESOLVED that it is the policy of the Town Council of Leesburg in Virginia, that informal suggestions for naming town facilities are preferred over formal recommendations from town commissions.
