A RESOLUTION: ESTABLISHING A TOWN FACILITY NAMING POLICY
WHEREAS, from time to time the Town of Leesburg wishes to formally name
town-owned facilities such as parks, buildings, rooms in buildings, and streets; and
WHEREAS, the town recognizes the sensitivity and potential embarrassment an
honoree may have if an unsolicited name is suggested but not accepted; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Council, to reserve unto itself the prerogative of
deciding what name to select; and
WHEREAS, it is the preference of the Council not to formally receive the
suggestions from town commissions, although any member of a commission or a citizen
is free to offer suggestions to any or all members of the Council.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that it is the policy of the Town Council of Leesburg
in Virginia, that informal suggestions for naming town facilities are preferred over formal
recommendations from town commissions.
