SUPPORTING VIRGIlXlIA BYWAY DESIGNATION FOR A
SECTION OF EDWARDS FERRY ROAD
WHEREAS, Edwards Ferry Road provided access to Edwards Ferry on the Potomac River
throughout the 19th and early 20th Centuries; and
WHEREAS, landowners residing on Edwards Ferry Road have asked Loudoun County to designate
the 1.1 mile stretch of the road from the intersection with Battlefield Parkway to River Creek Parkway as a
Virginia Byway; and
WHEREAS, on May 7, 2001, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved this
recommendation; and
WHEREAS, the section of the road is designated as a four-lane road in both the county and
town transportation plans; and
WHEREAS, staff supports the designation, provided that the Loudoun County section is
developed as a four-lane roadway as shown in the current Countywide Transportation Plan.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia supports
the Virginia Byway designation for the 1.1 mile section of Edwards Ferry Road from Battlefield
Parkway to River Creek Parkway, provided that the Loudoun County section is developed as a four-
lane roadway as shown in the current Countywide Transportation Plan.
