Jeff Smith Appreciation
WHEREAS, Jeff Smith joined the City of Bothell as an associate planner on May 11,
1992, when the city’s population was 13,702; and
WHEREAS, Jeff has honorably served the citizens of Bothell for 30 years during which
time the population has increased to 48,940; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Jeff wrecked a City vehicle on Bothell Everett Highway, requiring
several months of physical therapy where he met a nice physical therapist named
Susan whom he married three years later; and
WHEREAS, Jeff raised two daughters in the Bothell and Northshore community and
impressed them with the projects he was working on throughout the City when driving
them to school and after school activities; and
WHEREAS, Jeff has provided a calming perspective to many tense development
issues to create a win-win situation for the City, staff, developers and Bothell
community; and
WHEREAS, Jeff provided professional knowledge and care for Bothell’s natural
environment by championing wetlands, streams, and critical areas mapping
inventory; and
WHEREAS, Jeff was instrumental to the Truly Farm transformation to the University of
Washington – Bothell campus; and
WHEREAS, Jeff worked his way up from the front counter to Senior Planner, to
Development Services Manager and ultimately to interim Community Development
Department Director; and
WHEREAS, we celebrate Jeff’s invaluable contributions of service and friendship
and wish him all the best as he retires from the city and enjoys the next chapter of his
life.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson, Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hereby
proclaim the City of Bothell’s appreciation to Jeff smith for his many contributions to the
City of Bothell and our greater community.
