OPPOSING INCREASING TRUCK WEIGHT LIMITS ON VIRGINIA
ROADS
WHEREAS, a safe and efficient surface transportation system benefits our community
and our state; and
WHEREAS, the current tractor trailer weight limit is 80,000 pounds unless a special
permit is obtained; and
WHEREAS, increasing weight restrictions on tractor-trailers presents new safety
concerns as well as road and bridge maintenance concerns; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends Council oppose any increase in truck weight limits on
Virginia roads.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the
Council opposes any increase in the current weight restrictions on heavy trucks at this time.
