HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2012-05-08 East End utility relocation work Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Town of Leesburg to Begin East End Triangle Improvements Night work and road closures to accompany utility line relocation, beginning on Monday, May 14, 2012 Leesburg, VA (May 8, 2012) – On Monday, May 14, 2012, the Town of Leesburg will begin the first phase of the Downtown Improvements Project with the relocation of power lines at the East End Triangle, near Mom’s Apple Pie. Dominion Power will complete all power line relocation work, which will include: • Power going to lines on the pole in front of Mom’s Apple Pie will be re-routed via the existing lines on Loudoun Street to a pole located on Loudoun Street at Harrison Street, in front of the recently completed Leesburg Central project. The existing pole in front of Mom’s Apple Pie will be removed during the construction phase of the project. • From the there, the power lines will go underground to the north side of Loudoun Street. This work will be done at night, starting on Monday, May 14th, and will last for approximately two weeks. Loudoun Street will be closed between Harrison and Market Streets from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. each night while the work is being done. Traffic on Loudoun Street will be detoured to Market Street along Harrison Street in front of the Loudoun County Government Center. • After the Loudoun Street work is complete, underground utility work will take place on Harrison Street in front of the Loudoun County Government Center, on the Liberty gas station side of the road. This work will be done during the day. The northbound lane of Harrison Street and the on-street parking spaces on the gas station side will be closed for approximately one week. Traffic control will be in place during active work times. • Finally, the power lines will be extended under Market Street to an existing pole. This underground work will also be done at night between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. and will last approximately two weeks. Market Street will be closed between Harrison and Loudoun Streets each night while the work is being done. Traffic will be detoured to Loudoun Street. (more) TOL PR 2012-05-08 East End utility relocation work Page 2 Power outages are not expected during the utility relocation work. In addition, bus service in the area will not be interrupted. Dominion Power will place ads in the paper to advertise the work, and businesses in the affected areas of Loudoun, Market and Harrison Streets will be notified individually. Electronic message boards will be placed along the main traffic approaches to the work area before and during the work. The work schedule is subject to delays for inclement weather, equipment problems and other unforeseen events. If changes to the schedule are necessary, updated information will be posted on the Town’s website.
