HomeMy Public PortalAbout2002_03_12_r035The Town of Leesburg, rgtma PRESENTED March 12, 2002 RESOLUTION NO. 2002-35 ADOPTED March 12, 2002 A RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING COUNSEL TO AGREE TO A CONTINUANCE OF THE COMMISSION ON LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S HEARING ON ANNEXATION WHEREAS, counsel for Loudoun County has requested a continuance of the Commission on Local Government's hearing on annexation now scheduled for May 20 and 21, 2002; and WHEREAS, the town's annexation committee, special legal counsel, the town attorney and staff recommend that the town agree to a continuance of the Commission's hearing for up to two months in order to allow more time for the mediator to negotiate a settlement and for additional citizen input; and WHEREAS, the new schedule should include, among other things, dates for mediation to begin and end; and WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has agreed to mediation of annexation matters between Loudoun County and the Town of Leesburg; and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council as follows: SECTION I. Counsel is authorized to agree to a continuance of the Commission's hearing for up to two months because Loudoun County has agreed to mediation. SECTION II. Notwithstanding a continuance, the town's annexation proceedings shall be initiated by March 14, 2002. PASSED this 12th day of March 2002. Council R02:annex continuance 2 B. J.
