A RESOLUTION: PRESENTED May 29 2002 ADOPTED May 29, 2002 SUPPORTING THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA SALES TAX REFERENDUM WHEREAS, on April 17, 2002, the General Assembly approved the half-cent sales tax referendum to benefit transportation in Northern Virginia; and WHEREAS, Northern Virginia residents will vote November 5, 2002 on whether to raise the 4.5 percent sales tax by a half cent; and WHEREAS, the sales tax would not apply to food items; and WHEREAS, 100 percent of the revenues will be used for Northern Virginia regional transportation projects; and WHEREAS, the referendum will include $100,000,000 in improvements for Route 7 in Loudoun County; and WHEREAS, on April 23, 2002, the Town Council approved Resolution 2002-60 requesting that Leesburg projects for Route 7 be eligible for bond referendum funds for the Route 7/15 Bypass Widening Project and Route 7 interchange improvements at Battlefield Parkway, River Creek Parkway, and White Gate. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the Council supports the sales tax referendum for transportation, and urges Leesburg residents to vote in favor of it on November 5, 2002.
