HomeMy Public PortalAboutBrewster School Committee -- 2007-05-17 MinutesBrewster School Committee A D D D O Minutes of May 17, 2007 tl Held at Eddy Elementary School ~~~ 2 ~ ~~~~ Chair O'Reilly called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. Present for the Committee: Steve Leibowitz, Jennifer Rabold, Steve Jones and Chairman O'Reilly Present for the Administration: Superintendent Gradone, Paul Bradsteet, Denise Fronius, and Gail Briere AGENDA CHANGES -None CITIZENS SPEAK -None At this time Chairman O'Reilly thanked Steve Leibowitz for his years of service to the Brewster School Committee. PRIORITY BUSINESS A. Administrator's Reports - the second grade Denise Fronius reported on various school activities including; "measurement guy and girl," the second grade cookbook, early childhood playground, presentation to staff byAnita Woods regarding the program at the Cape Cod Collaborative, new health and wellness area of the library (donations from Nauset Rotary Club), finishing Dibels testing (will report next month), volunteer appreciation day, and kindergarten registration (66). Early childhood playground did not appear on the warrant. Ms. Fronius intends to go forward with this plan because of safety concerns for young children. A committee will bring this forward in the fall. (Community Preservation Act) Paul Bradstreet reported on various school activities including: May MCAS testing, Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops, BUGS Program, Whitecaps visit on June 18 and June 20~', Dibels testing, and planning for next year (flex days, placement). It was noted that an amendment had been made to an IEP which requires a 1-1 Educational Assistant for an autistic student needing support in all academic areas. Steve Jones requested that specifics be known sooner than later and brought to the attention of the Finance Committee prior to fall Town Meeting. Superintendent Gradone reported to the committee that Jennifer Rabold was an exemplary Chair;br the Business Manager Screening Committee. (details at the Jt. Meeting) The Superintendent also reported that the Planning Board unanimously approved the request for the summer program to be held at the Eddy School and expect a permit change next fall which would allow more activities at Eddy in the future. Authorize Full-Time Educational Assistants On a motion by Jennifer Rabold, seconded by Steve Leibowitz, it was voted, as recommended by the Superintendent, to authorize full-time Educational Assistants for 2007-2008. Review Updated Capital Plan Prior to approving the Capital Plan it was suggested that repairs to the boiler be included in the plan due to the amount of repairs and definite need. The cost of replacing the gymnasium floor was also questioned. On a motion by Steve Jones, seconded by Steve Leibowitz, it was voted unanimously to adopt the revised Capital Plan. REPROTS AND INFORMATION Cane Cod Collaborative Jennifer Rabold reported the following: Course available -Teaching Marine Science, Mass. Maritime, Grs. 4-8 -free. Teachers can get graduate credits for $250.00. New Business Manager has been hired - great field of candidates. APPROVAL OF MIN[JTES On a motion by Steve Jones, seconded by Jennifer Rabold, it was voted unanimously to approve the minutes of the meeting for April 26, 2007.
