PRIORITY BUSINESS
- Administrators' Reports
Mrs. Fronius reported for Mr. Gauley on the smooth opening giving credit to the veteran staff; the
School Council will have a survey available on-line; they hope to have the School Improvement
Plan for the October meeting.
Mrs. Fronius reported that the Open House at Stony Brook was very well attended; the first
Wellness Expo was very successful with many wonderful booths; the Cape Cod Collaborative
program is fitting in very well; Community Reading Day is October 11.
Mr. Gradone reported that he needed to make a correction on the agenda in that instead of thirty
additional students it should have been sixteen; enrollments have been higher than anticipated
and the closer we get to the actual year projected, the enrollment gets higher; we are now in a
flexible stage between 475-500 for about three years.
Reconsider FY 08 Budget
Mr. Gradone advised the Committee that they (administration) are analyzing any possible savings
to help fund the unanticipated special education costs -there are some savings in personnel
(new cafeteria manager). Due to the fact that apre-school student is enrolled in a day program
off-Cape there is a $35,000 shortfall plus transportation costs. He recommends waiting to ask for
supplemental appropriation at the May Town Meeting. Mr. Jones asks that it be clarified that the
School Committee will be back in the spring with a more accurate figure to request the funding to
cover the deficit. Mr. Gradone informed the Committee that a Sustainable Forum on Special
Education will be held on October 29. Following discussion, the Committee decided to wait to
vote until the next meeting.
Town Meeting Articles
Mr. Gradone reviewed the Capital Projects which are included on the warrant: Technology iMac
Lab at Stony Brook ($20,000), Painting Project at Eddy ($10,000), Eddy Parking Lot Light Poles

Stony Brook Bleachers ($10,000}, Stony Brook Air Compressor ($18,000 - - BOS Waiver
Request). Mrs. Fronius noted that the CPC was pleased to help fund the playground, and Head
Start helped with netting left over from last year.
Brewster School Committee Minutes - Seotember 20 2007 Pape 2
Consider Whitecaps Fietd Use Reouest
Whitecaps President Claire Gradone spoke of the successful season and smooth adjustment to
their new home; the netting installed over the playground was really appreciated; presented a
small donation to the Stony Brook School; they are planning on making some improvements to
the field; and they would like to move the food booths but will come back to make that request at
a future date. She thanked the Committee for their support. It was moved by Marie Enochty and
seconded by David Telman to approve the Whitecaps' use of the baseball field in 2008. Voted
unanimously.
- Consider Stonv Brook School Improvement Plan
It was moved by Marie Enochty, seconded by Steve Jones and voted unanimously to approve
the Stony Brook School Improvement Plan.
Consider Lease Rates
Mr. Gradone reviewed the proposed 10% increase in the basic rate. It was moved by Marie
Enochty, seconded by Steve Jones and voted unanimously to increase the basic rate to $550
per month per classroom in 2008-09 and to $600 in 2009-70. This will not affect the Cape Cod
Collaborative due to the fact they are providing an additional subsidy for nursing and custodial
services well in excess of the additional amount proposed.
REPORTS AND INFORMATION
- Readiness Project Leadership Council
Marie Enochty reported that she has been appointed to a subcommittee of Governor Deval
Patrick's Readiness Project Leadership Council. She will serve on the Early Education and Care
Subcommittee. She is quite excited about this appointment.

August 16, 2007. Voted unanimously.
OTHER
- Financial Reports
Mr. Jones asked about the Stony Brook maintenance account being in the red. Mrs. Fronius said
there are problems with the boilers. She and the business manager are looking at the history and
a preventive maintenance plan. Mr. Jones asked that this be kept track of in that it may be a
request in the spring.
ADJOURNMENT
