Caitlin Browne, Assistant Director DATE: August 1, 2019 RE: Request from LIG/MEG for Professional Development Part of the professional development plan for FY20 is to administer Myers -Briggs assessments to all staff. We will be working with a local firm, Leading Minds Executive Coaching, to administer and contextualize the results. This will consist of all staff taking the Myers -Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire and 3 small group debrief sessions. The goal of this plan is to provide staff with a tool to aid communication with each other and with patrons. The cost for this in FY20 is $4200. I would like to request your approval to use an additional $5,100 from LIG/MEG to provide individual debriefs for all staff. This would give each individual direct time (30 minutes) with the MBTI consultant to review the results of their assessment. We have done MBTI assessment at the library almost a decade ago in which all staff took the assessment and then did group debriefs. While this is useful, it is my opinion that providing the individual 1:1 debrief sessions will allow each staff member to understand the assessment and how they can use it to foster effective and meaningful communication in their jobs as well as their personal lives. The total cost of this project will be $9,300. While we do have a $10,000 budget for professional development, I am requesting the $5,100 come from LIG/MEG so that we can provide other professional development with the Professional Development budget throughout the year such as conference and workshop attendance, professional development books and materials, and an additional staff -wide training that is in the $2000-$4000 range. Thank you for your consideration. 123 Main Street Watertown, MA 02472-4478 617.97z.6434 watertownlib.org
