PARTICIPATING IN THE VIRGINIA 2007 COMMUNITY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is preparing to commemorate the 400th anniversary
of America's first permanent English colony in 2007; and
WHEREAS, the County of Loudoun will celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2007; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg will celebrate its 250th Anniversary in 2008; and
WHEREAS, the Town desires to participate in the Virginia 2007 Community Program, sponsored
by Jamestown 2007, as a prelude to a town celebration; and
WHEREAS, the Town will coordinate the celebration of its own history through the involvement
of a planning committee of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
SECTION I. The Town Manager is hereby authorized to apply to Jamestown 2007 to participate
in the Virginia 2007 Community Program.
SECTION II. The staff, in coordination with the Mayor, will (a) identify an initial planning
committee of individuals with diverse backgrounds, (b) name a committee chairperson and (c) identify a
preliminary legacy project that the town will accomplish by 2007.
