A RESOLUTION: APPROVING A WAYFINDING SIGN DESIGN FOR THE TOWN OF
LEESBURG
WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Council supports enhancing Leesburg's position as an
historic, tourist, conference and commercial center for Loudoun County; and
WHEREAS, it has been the desire and long-standing priority of the Leesburg Economic
Development Commission (LEDC) to assess and implement a coordinated, comprehensive sign
system for the Town of Leesburg; and
WHEREAS, the Council has recognized the importance of not perpetuating sign clutter
in our community while adding improved signage for our gateways, historic district, attractions
and special events; and
WHEREAS, on June 26, 2001, the Council appropriated $50,000 to fund a sign
assessment and implementation plan; and
WHEREAS, the Town subsequently entered into a contract with Frazier Associates for
comprehensive design and implementation services for a streetscape information and wayfinding
signage system; and
WHEREAS, Frazier Associates has presented initial and final wayfinding sign designs to
town staff, a community committee comprised of representatives from business community and
the tourism industry, the LEDC, the Board of Architectural Review and the Town Council; and
WHEREAS, the LEDC has recommended approval of the final designs for primary and
secondary entryway, trailblazing and proximity signs featuring a dark blue background with gold

script lettering of the word "Leesburg," burgundy accents and, where appropriate, fieldstone sign
bases.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia
approves the designs for the Wayfinding Sign System as presented and authorizes the Town
Manager to proceed with procurement of the signs.
