Home My Public Portal AboutResolution 2020-10, Phase 1 - Authorizing Execution Of Constrution Contract for 2020 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation RESOLUTION 2020- 10 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE 2020 SANITARY SEWER REHABILITATION WHEREAS, the City of Riverdale, Iowa ("City") is a Municipal Corporation, organized and operating under the laws of the State of Iowa; WHEREAS, the City Council has properly advertised for and accepted bids for the Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation project; and; WHEREAS, the City's Engineering Firm MSA and Engineer Chris Cooper have reviewed the bids and found the three bidders to be qualified, responsible bidders, and; WHEREAS, the City Council has determined it is in the best interest of the community to approve the lowest bid from Visu-Sewer in the amount of $160,921.50. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Riverdale, Iowa authorizes the Mayor, Clerk and City Administrator to execute contract documents and proceed to complete the Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation work with Visu-Sewer in the amount of $160,921.50. Upon review of the bids received on 1/21/2020 for the above-referenced project, it was found that they were submitted by qualified contractors. The low bid, submitted by Visu-Sewer, Inc. of$160,921,50, is above our opinion of the probable construction cost. Upon review of the bid submitted by Visu- Sewer, we determined the reason for the difference in the bid cost is the unit cost for bid item 12, Exploratory Excavation. Visu-Sewer's bid cost for this item is $51,540. This cost is almost a third of their bid price. MSA believes that there are potentially acceptable methods to lower the cost of this bid item. MSA has discussed our concern with Visu-Sewer, and they have concurred that they are open to discussing options to reduce the cost of this item. Based on this, it is our recommendation that the low responsive bidder listed below be accepted. MSA recommends that award of this project be made contingent upon tentative agreement between the City, the Engineer, and the Contractor as to an acceptable method to reduce the cost of bid item 12, Exploratory Excavation.
