HomeMy Public PortalAbout2003_08_12_r121 Forgiving Fire Company DebtThe Town of Leesburg, hrglnla PRESENTED August 12, 2003 RESOLUTION NO. 2 0 0 3 - 1 2 1 ADOPTED August 12, 2003 A RESOLUTION: FORGIVING THE DEBT OF THE LEESBURG VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY RELATING TO THE SITE DEVELOPMENT COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FIRE STATION ON PLAZA STREET WHEREAS, in 1996, the town and the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. (the "fire company") signed a letter of intent to enter into a lease for a portion of the town's property for the purpose of building a fire station. The fire station was to be co-located with a police station as a public safety center. The letter of intent provided that the fire company was to pay 30% of the site development costs of the public safety center; and WHEREAS, by letter dated August 18, 1998, Steve Brown, then town manager, requested the fire company to pay $386,882, its share of the site development costs; and WHEREAS, by letter dated May 5, 2003, the fire company requested forgiveness of its debt; and WHEREAS, in consideration of the invaluable service that the fire company has provided to the town, Council desires to forgive the fire company's debt; and WHEREAS, the statute of limitations may expire on August 18, 2003. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, Virginia that the fire company's debt, as described above, is hereby forgiven. PASSED this 12th day of August 2003.
