HomeMy Public PortalAbout2004_02_24_r026The Town of Leesburg, Virginia RESOLUTION NO. 2004-26 PRESENTED ADOPTED February 24, 2004 February 24, 2004 A RESOLUTION: APPROVING TOWN PARTICIPATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A REGIONAL ALL-HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN BY THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL COMMISSION WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission has received a grant from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to develop a regional All-Hazard Mitigation Plan; and WHEREAS, this regional All-Hazard Mitigation Plan will identify mitigation actions that can be taken prior to natural and "human caused" disasters to reduce the potential impact on the region and the Town of Leesburg; and WHEREAS, participating in the development of the regional All-Hazard Mitigation Plan will allow the town to become eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency pre-disaster and post-disaster hazard mitigation grants; and WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission has requested that all participating jurisdictions sign a Letter of Intent to participate in the development of the regional All-Hazard Mitigation Plan; and WHEREAS, staff recommends the town participate in the development of a regional All- Hazard Mitigation Plan in coordination with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission. -2- A RESOLUTION: APPROVING TOWN PARTICIPATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A REGIONAL ALL-HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN BY THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL COMMISSION THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. The Council approves the Town of Leesburg participation in the development of a regional All-Hazard Mitigation Plan in coordination with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission. SECTION II. The Town Manager is authorized to sign the Letter of Intent for the Town of Leesburg to participate in the development of the All-Hazard Mitigation Plan in coordination with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.
