Leesburg, VA (June 18, 2012) –
Celebrate the 4th of July in
style at the Town of Leesburg’s
22nd annual Independence Day
Celebration on Wednesday,
July 4, 2012.
Start the 4th with a bang! Show
your patriotic spirit at the
annual Independence Day
Parade, held through Historic
Downtown Leesburg beginning
at 10am. The parade will start
at Ida Lee Park, travel down
King Street and conclude at Fairfax Street. Put on your patriotic best and join your friends and
neighbors to celebrate the birthday of the United States! This year’s parade will also feature the
5th Annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by Leesburg Today. This award will go the
best parade entry and winners will receive their names engraved on the Patriot Cup, which will
be on display at Town Hall for the remainder of the year.
If you are interested in participating in the parade, entry is free! Please contact Ida Lee Park
Recreation Center (703-777-1368) for an application or visit www.idalee.org for an online
version. King Street will close to through-traffic at 9:30am in preparation for the parade.
Downtown streets will re-open at approximately 11:30am.
The excitement and fun continues at Ida Lee Park at 6:00pm when the gates open for the
“Celebration in the Park.” Celebrate America’s big day at Ida Lee Park with two great bands
and some jamming tunes. The evening will start off with the Rob Byer Band, a mix of modern

country sounds. Coming straight off their tour of Key West, Florida, the Rob Byer Band is a great
way to get Leesburg rocking. Get ready to continue to rock the night away with the return of
Faded Image, a rockin’ band from the Baltimore area that plays a mix of tunes from 80’s to
country to classic rock. You name it, they play it. The band has been featured all over the
region, including headlining at Sloppy Joes in Key West, Florida, as well as the Hard Rock Café in
Baltimore.
Be sure to grab a bite at the event as plenty of food vendors will be on hand. Nothing goes
better with the 4th of July than burgers, hotdogs, and funnel cake. Other culinary favorites
include barbecue, smoothies, and ice cream.
The biggest bang of the evening begins at 9:30pm when the largest fireworks show in the
region will light up the sky. Choreographed to patriotic music, this light show is not to be
missed. Parking is available at the interior lots off Ida Lee Drive, and the festival field parking off
King Street. The Town of Leesburg staff will work hard to insure that as many vehicles as
possible are parked in the park, so attendees are asked to be patient while waiting to enter and
exit. The Town also reminds our guests to use designated cross walks.
Leesburg Fire and Rescue Volunteers will be on site to provide medical assistance if needed.
Coolers and large bags are permitted but will be checked at gate entrances. Pets, alcohol, glass
bottles and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted. In the event of rain,
fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5th at 9:30pm. No other activities will be rescheduled.
Special thanks to our 2012 Independence Day Sponsors, including Toth Financial and Leesburg
Today/Ashburn Today newspapers.
