HomeMy Public PortalAboutAgriculture Commission -- 2008-03-13 MinutesMINUTES of the MEETING of The BP,EWSTER AGRICULTt.JRAL COMMISSION Held Thursday March 13, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. At the Brewster Town Office Building, 2198 Main Street, Room A Present: Peter Herrmann, Heather Mangelinkx, Jack Latham, Rebecca Howes and Dave Carlson. Mr. Herrmann called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. Minutes of the February 28, 2008 meeting were accepted and unanimously approved by the board. First issued discussed was the Stephanie Erickson complaints by her neighbors, Peter Johnson came to represent the neighborhood, Stephanie could not attend because of a family emergency, however, Nancy Sheridan came on her behalf. Mr. Johnson wanted to know our role in this issue. Her application to the zoning board has been withdrawn. The neighbors do not oppose her horse farm but had issues with her management of the property. Mr. Johnson felt that the neighbors could settle the issues between themselves without getting us involved. Mr. Latham let him know that we are just mediators in these issues and felt that we should not continue discussing this without Ms. Erickson present. Mr. Johnson suggested that he would sit down with Ms. Erickson and whoever she would like with her to help work out the problems. Mr. Herrmann suggested that Ms. Erickson should decide what forum she would like to take, either sitting down with the neighbors or getting us involved. Manure management was the next order of business. Bill Clark of the county extension has said that this is a difficult issue to come up with basic regulations that is agreeable to everyone. Basically manure should be confined, prevent runoff and the best management is to compost it. Barnstable County is working on regulations, Mr. Carlson will get copies of their plan to everyone before the next meeting so that we can discuss it with more information than we have now. Elizabeth Taylor brought up the issue that we should get a change at the fall town meeting in set back requirements for barns out of the zoning board jurisdiction and into the Board of Health's regulations. Next meeting will be held April 17th Ms. Howes motioned to adjourn the meeting at 9:05, Mr. Latham seconded and all agreed.
