ADOPTING THE INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE AS AN ANNUAL
TOWN EVENT UNDER THE COORDINATION OF THE DEPARTMENT
OF PARKS AND RECREATION
WHEREAS, the Town Council has expressed an interest in conducting an annual parade in
Leesburg as a part of the Independence Day celebration in July; and
WHEREAS, the volunteer group wishing to undertake this project was unable to acquire
liability insurance to conduct the event; and
WHEREAS, the initial planning for the year 2004 done by the volunteer group scheduled the
parade for July 3, 2004; and
WHEREAS, future Independence D ay Parades s hall b e scheduled i n conjunction with t he
existing events which occur on July 4th each year;
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that an
Independence Day Parade and associated program be adopted as an annual town event and become
part of the existing 4th of July festivities, under the coordination of the Department of Parks and
Recreation.
