HomeMy Public PortalAboutAgriculture Commission -- 2008-07-17 MinutesMINUTES of the MEETING of
The BREWSTER AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION
Held Thursday July 17 , 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
At the Brewster Town Office Building, 2198 Main Street, Room A
Present: Peter Herrmann, Heather Mangelinkx, Dave Carlson, Stephen Brown, Julie
Trzcinski and Jack Latham.
Mr. Herrmann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., minutes of the June 26, 2008
meeting were accepted and unanimously approved by the board.
Mr. Hemnann reported that Katherine Beauchamp from the APCC had gone to the last
Farm Bureau meeting. They indicated that they would like her to not only make a data
base of the farms, but do more with the data.
The Agricultural Commission is still looking for 1 more member.
The Organic Food Co-op is looking for open space for organic farming. Mr. Brown is
interested in talking with them.
DCPC has a vision map regarding zoning areas. Zone maps 1 & 2 have new regulations
regarding wells, building size etc. We would like to get a copy of this map for our
information. We have a concern about regulations allowing only 10,000 sq ft of clearing,
which puts a limit on farming.
Ms. Taylor spoke about the barn boxes and how they should have the animal owners
name and phone number on them. She has spoken to the police dept about how animal
calls are handled, they pass the calls on to the animal control officer. Ms Taylor will
speak to the fire department to see if they have training with barn fires.
A vote was taken on the new farm bureau's agriculture special license plate. We should
establish an account to allow us to receive funds from the sale of these plates, Jack
Latham motioned to accept this with the change in the letter going out to say that the
money will be used for the promotion of agriculture in Brewster. Mr. Brown seconded
this motion and all agreed.
Ms. Taylor announced that Bob Bugle is doing an arts, crafts and antiques sale on
Columbus Day weekend and wanted the Agricultural Commission to participate. Ms.
Taylor will check with the selectmen to see if this is legal for us to do.
Mr. Brown motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 pm, Mr. Latham seconded and all
agreed.
Respectfully submitted,
Heather Mangelinkx 9S~ l la ~Z d3S 80.
