Call to order
Bob Miller called to order the regular meeting of the Town of Brewster: Building
Needs & Assessment Committee at 6:45 pm on June 11, 2008 in Brewster Town Hall.
Roll call
The following BNAC members were present: Bob Miller, Herb Montgomery, Don
Poole, Paul Bradford, Omer Dumas and Charlie Sumner, Richard Kosinski
Interviews for the Fire & Rescue Station
Maguire Group -Peter Morrison, Lynn Stapleton and Caruso Fabrizio located in Fox
borough, MA and a multi disciplinary firm. They are currently working on 14 different
public safety facilities in Massachusetts. All of the work effort will be managed in-
house with the exception of cost estimating. They are used to working with an owner
project manager. Maintained public relations efforts to educate citizens on the needs of
the facility. Significant experience comparing new versus renovated facilities, such as
Westborough, Concord and Franklin.
Initially they will send in a team to evaluate the building. Next they will work with the
Fire Chief to evaluate departmental needs and create a program. This allows for the
development of costs projections and alternates.
Donham & Sweeney Architects -Brett Donham, Jeff Shaw, Stephanie Sequinn and
Chris Garcia. Brett Donham introduced his project team, which includes several
different firms. Brett mentioned that while the current building looks rather good; it is
very dysfunctional in terms of workflow. He mentioned that active and public
participation is critical to successful projects. Inclusive of all the stakeholder is key.
Present information on site issues and conceptual site plan. Also included a discussion
about overall site plan review to include COA, fuel tanks, etc. Public hearing processes
are an important variable. Also discussed a preliminary review with permitting boards
to avoid surprises. Development of comparable date from other towns to support
program.
