& Assessment Committee at 7:30 pm on September 10, 2008 in Brewster Town Hall.
Roll call
The following were present: Bob Miller, Herb Montgomery, Paul Bradford, Don Poole,
Charles Sumner, Richard Kosinski, Chief Roy Jones, Greg Levasseur, Lisa Gerrish
Minutes
The minutes of August 11 & 13, 2008 were reviewed and approved by the committee.
Fire Station Proiect
Herb Montgomery opened the meeting by reviewing the information provided by the
Maguire Group. This package presented and criticized three options, which are
indentified as A, B & C.
Option A is a reuse of the current facility with an addition to the apparatus bays and a
rehab and expansion of the administrative/living spaces.
Option B is a partial use of the current facility. However the current apparatus area will
be demolished; and a new facility will be constructed in the rear.
Option C is a demolition of the current building; and a construction of a new building to
the rear of the site.
Omer Dumais, who serves as the town's owner project manager provided a memo with
some comments, ideas and thoughts on the project to date. The letter serves to provide
some recommendations on progress to date as well as to offer some ideas on a future
course of action.
Chief Roy Jones is upset with Omer Dumais's letter and some comments made that he is
unduly influencing this project. Committee members were upset by Chief Jones
comment and tone. Everybody expressed themselves on the process and issues raised by
Chief Jones.
The committee members entered into a lengthy discussion about sitting issues, cost
analysis and departmental impacts. Greg Levasseur expressed concerns about reusing the
current building, because there is value in the structure. Also is it possible to construct a
cheaper "butler type building" for storage of some of the auxiliary equipment.
Don Poole and Paul Bradford mentioned that we have, in fact, been looking at these very
issues. Renovation of existing space comes with a cost and some limitations. We will

well. We have a bid opening in early October of 2008.
