HomeMy Public PortalAboutCable Television Advisory -- 2008-06-03 MinutesMinutes of the meeting of the Brewster Cable TV Advisory Committee scheduled for 7:00 pm on Tuesday 3 June 2008. The meeting is called to order at 7:00 pm on Tuesday 3 June 2008 by Larry Greeley. Members present at this time are: Larry Greeley Norman Adams Janet Husband Walter Powers Tonight as the meeting opens there is nobody in the audience area. Norman Adams distributes copies of the draft minutes of the meeting of Wednesday 7 May 2008, as well as copies of the approved and subsequently filed minutes of the meeting of Tuesday 1 Apri12008. A motion is made by Walter Powers and seconded by Janet Husband to accept the minutes of the meeting of Wednesday 8 May 2008 as presented. The vote to accept is unanimous. Larry Greeley reports on his visit to the Nauset Regional High School for further exploration of the possibility for use of available space for use as the community access studio for the several towns which now rely on the use of the studio facility located in the Comcast building on Locust Road in Orleans and managed by Comcast. Persons from each of the several towns were present for this visit. So far everything still looks very favorable. Larry Greeley mentions that he talked with Jim Geisler of the Brewster Taxpayers Association about the possibility of using space in Nauset Regional High School for a community access studio and Jim reacted quite positively. There is some discussion of the fact that the Brewster Government channel is up and running, so far with very limited programming, and so far with no explicit policy for its operation. The need for a policy for its operation is discussed. Norman Adams moves that: this committee authorizes Larry Greeley to recommend to the Brewster Board of Selectmen that they examine the Orleans policy relating to the operation of the Orleans Government Channel for consideration in the formation of a Brewster policy relating to the operation of the Brewster Govemment Channel. The motion is seconded by Walter Powers. The motion is accepted unanimously. Larry mentions that (for other reasons) he is already on the agenda of the Brewster Board of Selectmen for their meeting of Monday 16 June 2008. That meeting opens at 7 pm. Larry is on the agenda for approximately 8 pm. He expects to present the above recommendation at that time. Two town employees concerned with this building's structure, modifications, and upkeep pass through the room in pursuit of their duties. Larry Greeley remarks to them that it would be useful for us (i.e. this committee) if sometime before too long we could learn about the details of the impending construction of the space where the government channel equipment is to be installed. Their response is inspecific but positive. Some suitable interaction will probably be worked out. Larry Bugden arrives at 7:28 pm. The members in attendance at this time are: Larry Greeley Norman Adams Larry Bugden Janet Husband Walter Powers Larry Bugden relates that he has talked with a particular lawyer who is particularly knowledgeable about negotiations with Comcast. This lawyer is willing to work with Brewster at a specified (substantially reduced) rate. This lawyer suggests that negotiations with Comcast will be strongly influenced by an intention on Comcast's part to achieve a remotely managed network throughout Comcast's entire operation in the US. In such a network "local" would signify a very large region -perhaps for Brewster a region including all of New England. This view of Comcast's intentions was discussed by the members with considerable interest. There is no explicit discussion of the time, date, and place of the next meeting, which therefore will be at the usual time, date, and place, to wit, at 7:00 pm on the first Tuesday of next month in this building. The meeting seems to be out of other business to be taken up tonight. A motion to adjourn is made by Walter Powers and seconded by Larry Bugden. The motion is passed unanimously. The meeting is adjourned at a minute or two before 5:00 pm. ~~AL..~. a... `mil K. ~?i~..'~ .~-- ~ -_ Submitted by Norman Adams, Clerk, Brewster CTVAC ~~ l: ~ LZ. Jl~~l 30. 'j:
