HomeMy Public PortalAbout2017-03-061 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING, MARCH 6, 2017 CALL TO ORDER The Regular Council Meeting of March 6, 2017, was convened at 6:00 P.M. by Mayor Carrie Tergin. ROLL CALL The f ollowing Council Members were present for the roll call: Present: Branch, Graham, Henry, Luebbert, Mihalevich, Prather, Schreiber, Ward, and Wiseman Absent: Hussey A quorum was declared present. Mayor Tergin recognized Boy Scouts in the audience and asked them to come forward and introduce themselves and tell what school they attend. There were two Scouts from Lewis & Clark Middle School, and one Scout from Thomas Jefferson Middle School. All three were working on their Citizenship in the Community badges. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA A motion was made by Councilman Henry, seconded by Councilwoman Wiseman, to adopt the agenda as published. The motion was approved unanimously. MISCELLANEOUS AGENDA ITEMS There were no Miscellaneous Agenda items presented at this time. PUBLIC HEARINGS There were no public hearings scheduled at this time. PRESENTATIONS FROM STAFF, CONSULTANTS, AND INVITED GUESTS Mr. Larry Linthicum, Superintendent of Schools for the Jefferson City Public School District, made a presentation informing the Cou ncil about the upcoming two ballot issues on the April 4 ballot. If approved, the issues would increase property taxes to be used for high school needs. He distributed a fact sheet explaining how the funds would be expended. ANNOUNCEMENTS BY MAYOR, COUNCIL, AND STAFF Staff Announcements:  Chief Schofield announced a statewide emergency weather drill would occur at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7. If the predicted inclement weather occurred on March 7, the backup date would be March 9 at 10:00 a.m. Council Committee Announcements:  Councilman Prather announced a Finance Committee meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9. Mayor’s Announcements:  A Central East Side Neighborhood Floodplain Informational Meeting would be held at 4:00 P.M. on Monday, March 13, in the Council Chambers. 3 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING, MARCH 6, 2017  The News Tribune will host candidate forums at City Hall in the Council Chambers, as follows: o March 7 – school board races and the bond and levy issues 6:00 P.M. o March 21 –City Council races on the April 4 ballot, 6:00 P.M.  The City is working with the state for conveyance of land in the Missouri State Penitentiary site from the State of Missouri to the City LINCOLN UNIVERSITY STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE UPDATE Lincoln Liaison Jonathan Jackson was not present to give a report.
