Annual Park Tour City Hall Picnic Shelter Commissioners discussed the cost of the project to the city ($2,500) since it was built as an Eagle Scout project. Commissioners discussed the height of the structure. The general consensus was that the shelter was too tall. Medina Morningside Park Commissioners discussed the large amount of settling that occurred on the curb surrounding the equipment. The general consensus was that Morningside was a very pretty park and that the new equipment looks great. There was also consensus that the baseball fields either needed to be kept up or perhaps abandoned. Commissioners discussed the roof of the picnic shelter. It is scheduled in the CIP to be replaced in 2006. General consensus was that the roof was in good shape, and that other priorities should be sought out while on the tour. There was also general consensus to investigate tin roofing that matched surrounding equipment for any replacement on picnic shelters. County Road 19 Trail Commissioner Bruer gave an update from a recent County Road 19 Trail meeting. Three Rivers Park District and Hennepin County would both lick to run the trail to the east of CR19, perhaps following existing horse trails. There was discussion about installing a box culvert under CR19 rather than having a crossing on the road. Commissioners questioned whether kids would actually travel to the culvert crossing. Some believed that they would almost certainly just cross to the trail at the closest opportunity. There was discussion that some sort of fence was being considered to prevent this crossing. June 7, 2006 (Annual Park Tour) Lake Ardmore Area Discussion occurred regarding three lots for sale along the wetlands of Lake Ardmore. If the city purchased this land, it could perhaps be a buffer from the wetlands to the homes. Lakeshore Park Discussion surrounded painting the swing set and purchasing a picnic table. There was also discussion regarding the possibility of installing a horseshoe pit. An area resident approached the Park Commission with a complaint of Buckthorn along the lakeshore. Maple Park Commissioners were pleased to see the ball fields in use. Hunter Lions Park Commissioners noted that the picnic shelter roof was in much worse shape than the shelter at Medina Morningside. General consensus was to prioritize this roof on the CIP if it was not on the schedule for 2006. General consensus was to investigate tin roofing that matched the incoming equipment. Commissioners requested that branches above the sidewalk be trimmed. Rainwater Park Discussion surrounded the future use of Rainwater Park, since it is still in the early planning stages. General consensus was to reserve Rainwater as a passive park and to bring in a consultant to help design the landscape and plantings to be a "bird watching" park. Commissioner Linck stated that she may be able to help the Park Commission with some planning as well. Hamel Legion Park Adams stated that signage and plaza work was scheduled in the CIP for 2006. General consensus was for the City to establish a uniform design for Park signs that can be used at each park around the City. This should be accomplished before deciding on signs for around the Community Building. Commissioners discussed the weed control and dandelion issues around the Community building. Commissioner Dykhoff pointed out the silver ceiling equipment, and how badly it sticks out. General consensus was to look into painting these items. Commissioners discussed the installation of the basketball courts for which funding has been secured. There was discussion about how crowded it may be to put the court between the tennis courts and the baseball fence. Commissioners requested that Paumen create exhibits for the following Park Commission meeting as a reference to show how basketball courts could fit into the available spaces. Commissioners requested information about the seeding and plantings around the Stormwater Pond. June 7, 2006 (Annual Park Tour) Bridgewater Park Commissioners discussed the large tract of land put into easement around Lake Medina and toured the area of the Bridgewater pool and pool house. 3.
