Minutes of Meeting – June 4, 2015
The Hopkinton Open Space Preservation Commission
At 7:35 p.m., Jeff Doherty called the meeting to order.
met in Room 211 at the Town Hall, 18 Main Street, Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

: Jeff Doherty, Nancy Peters, Ed Harrow and Jennifer Burke, Principal Planner
There was a brief discussion regarding Mr. Doherty not having the time to continue as Chair.
Nancy Peters, seconded by Ed Harrow, made a motion to appoint John Ferrari, in absentia, Chairman.
Vote: 3-0-0, Unanimous
Nancy Peters, seconded by Ed Harrow, made a motion to appoint Jeff Doherty Vice Chairman.
Vote: 2-0-1, Jeff Doherty abstaining
Minutes
Mr. Doherty noted that Mr. Ferrari’s last name was spelled incorrectly in the April 30, 2015 minutes.
Nancy Peters, seconded by Jeff Doherty, made a motion to accept the minutes of April 30, 2015, as
corrected.
Vote: 3-0-0, Unanimous
Jeff Doherty, seconded by Nancy Peters, made a motion to accept the minutes of May 5, 2015, as written.
Vote: 4-0-1, Tom Collins not voting.
Spring Street
Ms. Peters updated the Commission that there was no news regarding the advancement of the sale of this
land.
East Main Street - Spengler
There is also no news regarding the potential of this property. Mr. Doherty heard that the Town maybe looking to recreation facilities there.

192 Hayden Rowe
Ms. Peters updated the Commission on the progress regarding the sign for the Hughes’. She has been
working with Signorama but has been unsuccessful in getting a commitment for a bronze sign. It does
not appear to be working out. Members suggested trying a monument company. She will try one in Holliston. Mr. Doherty agreed to call a company in Milford.
Mr. Harrow and Don McAdam, Conservation Administrator, went to the site. Mr. Harrow showed the
Commission pictures of the site walk and the areas of concern re: tree cutting. There was some discussion regarding how much was cleared and where. Ms. Peters mentioned that David Hughes has
permission to garden on the property but this clearing was beyond what is allowed.
There was discussion about what is needed to prepare the site for the rail trail. There does need to be some clearing. Mr. Doherty indicated that they would need to have a survey done to flag the area. The
project would have to go before the Conservation Commission. Ms. Peters stated that she spoke with Mr.
McAdam about creating a meadow on the property and he told her a filing was needed with Conservation to do the work.
David Goldman, HALT, suggested that the Upper Charles Trail Committee (UCTC) be brought into the conversation.
The Commission asked that Don McAdam, Conservation Administrator, Ken Parker, UCTC and David
Hughes be invited to the next meeting.
Friends of Whitehall
Two members of the Friends of Whitehall spoke to let the Commission know that there will be a site walk on Thursday June 11, 2015 at 4:00PM to walk the land off Wood Street. They would like a
Commissioner to come in case there are any issues with the neighbor. Mr. Harrow volunteered to go.
