A RESOLUTION TO SET A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR
CONSIDERATION OF A HOTEL -MOTEL TAX UNDER IOWA
CODE CHAPTER 423A.
WHEREAS, the City Council wants to encourage economic
development and the revenues necessary to fund economic development; and
WHEREAS, Iowa Code Chapter 423A provides a method of raising
revenue advantageous to residents and equitable to visitors; and
WHEREAS, Iowa Code Chapter 423A allows a voter consideration of a
motel -hotel tax at the next available election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council Tiffin,
Iowa, that issue of a hotel -motel tax under Iowa Code §423A be placed on the
ballot at the general election set for November 6, 2007 in the following
question:
Should the following measure be adopted?
Summary: Should Tiffin impose a 7% hotel -motel tax beginning July 1, 2008?
Should the City of Tiffin impose a hotel --motel tax under the provisions of
Iowa Code Chapter 423A at the rate o0% upon the gross receipts from the
renting of any and all rooms in any hotel, motel, inn or public lodging house
and on all lodgings covered by Chapter 423A, beginning July 1, 2008 with
revenues of the tax payable to the City general fund for community betterment
-and economic development projects?
ON THE 19thth day of September 2007, at a regular meeting of the Tiffin City
Council, Tiffin, Iowa, Councilperson ni i,- . introduced A
,RESOLUTION TO SET A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR
CONSIDERATION OF A HOTEL -MOTEL TAX UNDER IOWA
CODE CHAPTER 423A, and made a motion for approval: The motion was
seconded by Councilperson Petersen
Ayes: Dils, Petersen, Bartels and Demuth
Nays: None ab n : Wright
Motion carried.

WHEREUPON, the Mayor declared that the RESOLUTION TO SET A
SPECIAL ELECTION FOR CONSIDERATION OF A HOTEL-
MOTEL TAX UNDER IOWA CODE CHAPTER 423A, be adopted and
signified his.approval of the same by affixing his signature thereto.

PASSED, by the Council on the 19`h day of September 2007, and approved by
the Mayor on the 19`h day of September 2007.
