HomeMy Public PortalAbout2006_02_28_r037 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED February 28. 2006 RESOLUTION NO. 2006-37 ADOPTED February 28. 2006 A RESOLUTION: ACCEPTING THE REPORT OF THE PUBLIC ART TASK FORCE TO COUNCIL AS PRESENTED ON FEBRUARY 27,2006 WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Council, in Resolution 2005-114, on July 12,2005 supported the establishment of a Public Art Task Force to determine if a Commission of Public Art is feasible for Leesburg and, if so, to define the scope of such a Commission; and WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Council, in Resolution 2005-142, on September 13, 2005 appointed individuals to serve on the Leesburg Public Art Task Force and work with the Town Manager and staff to determine the feasibility of a Leesburg Public Art Commission; and WHEREAS, the member of the Leesburg Public Art Task Force have met over the course of six months to research best practices from other communities, discuss the scope, development and Commission responsibilities including Commission funding resources, Town ordinance and zoning review and prerequisites and implementation considerations; and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2005 the Public Art Task Force adopted a final report that outlines the research and final recommendations to Council; and WHEREAS, the Public Art Task Force believes a Commission on Public Art is both feasible and timely for Leesburg and would expand art and cultural opportunities and encourage economic growth and vitality for the Town of Leesburg; and THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION 1. Council accepts the report of the Public Art Task Force presented on February 27, 2006. -2- RESOLUTION: ACCEPTING THE REPORT OF THE PUBLIC ART TASK FORCE TO COUNCIL AS PRESENTED ON FEBRUARY 27, 2006 SECTION II. Council directs the Public Art Task Force and Town staff to follow-up, as soon as possible, on the following questions from Council: a. More specifically define the exact scope and mission that the Public Art Task Commission would encompass. b. Research successful examples of Public Art Commissions from communities with populations of 100,000 or less. c. In conjunction with the Town Manager, develop a budget and staffing recommendation for the Public Art Commission. PASSED this 28th day of February 2006. ~~ ( - (':- ',~' Knsten C.
