RESOLUTION NO. 2006-71
A RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING THE TOWN ATTORNEY TO INITIATE AN
ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH A PUBLIC ART COMMISSION
WHEREAS, on July 12, 2005 the Leesburg Town Council voted to support the
establishment of a Public Art Task force to determine if a Commission on Public Art was
feasible for Leesburg; and
WHEREAS, members of this task force were appointed and met over a period of six
months in order to research the best practices from other communities and created four
subcommittees to focus on Scope and Responsibility, Funding, Town Ordinances, and
Prerequisites! Implementation; and
WHEREAS, on February 27,2006, the Town Council accepted the initial feasibility
report on a Public Art Commission with direction given to further define the scope and mission
of a Public Art Commission, research communities with populations of 100,000 or less, and
develop a budget and staffing recommendation for the commission; and
WHEREAS, on April 10, 2006 the Public Art Task Force presented their response to the
Town Council; and
WHEREAS, The Leesburg Town Council recognizes that a Public Arts Commission will
be a benefit to the Town.

A RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING THE TOWN ATTORNEY TO DEVELOP AN
ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH A PUBLIC ART COMMISSION.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the
Council requests that the Town Attorney develop an ordinance and set it for public hearing for
the establishment of a Public Art Commission.
PASSED this 11 th day of April 2006.
