“Soccer Fiesta” Big Hit with Leesburg’s R.O.C.K. Program
Leesburg, VA (August 3, 2012) – On Friday,
June 29, 2012, over ninety children and their
families braved the heat for a “Soccer Fiesta”
in Leesburg. Loudoun Soccer, Soccer Across
America and Leesburg’s R.O.C.K. Program
jointly hosted the event, which provided an
afternoon filled with soccer drills, games and
fun. Children ages 2 to 17 enjoyed friendly
competition and instruction from local high
school players and coaches.
“The Soccer Fiesta was a great event that
brought local organizations together with the community through recreation,” said Betsy
Payne, Community Outreach Coordinator with the Leesburg Parks & Recreation Department.
“We wanted to introduce organized soccer to our R.O.C.K. participants in hopes that their
favorite sport could be more accessible, so we contacted Loudoun Soccer and Soccer Across
America for assistance in putting the event together.”
“Huge kudos go to Belinda Hyde, of Loudoun Soccer, and Marcelo Gangotena, of Soccer Across
America, for their efforts to make this amazing event happen. They exceeded our expectations
and provided coaches, giveaways, donations and other support. In addition, Glory Days Grill in
Brambleton and Cici’s Pizza in Leesburg very generously donated bottled water and pizza to all
participants,” she continued.
About Leesburg’s R.O.C.K. Program: For the past seven years, R.O.C.K. (Recreation Outreach to
Community Kids) has provided services to at-risk children in the Town of Leesburg. R.O.C.K.
provides activities that encourage more structure, positive socialization and less negative
environmental exposure through recreation. The program works as a whole to raise awareness
in the areas of gang membership, substance abuse, social issues, cultural diversity and domestic
