AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR LONGEVITY PAY FOR POLICEMEN.
WHEREAS, The Board of Public Works and Safety has negotiated with representatives
of the Bargaining Unit, representing all members of the Richmond Police Department
with the rank of Patrolmen, and in said negotiations have agreed, subject to the
approval of Council, to pay longevity pay to members of the Richmond Police
Department;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana,
that:
SECTION I. On the first (1st) day of January, 1979, any member of the Police
Department on active duty shall receive, in addition to such member's base pay,
longevity pay, which shall be determined on the basis of the length of active
service in the Police Department, which said longevity pay shall be as follows,
to -wit:
1. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than three years and not more than six years of active service in such member's
department shall receive the sum of $100.00 in addition to such member's base
pay; the annual payment shall commence upon the date upon which any such member
shall have completed three years of active service with such member's department.
2. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than six years and not more than eight years of active service in such member's
department shall receive the sum of $200.00 per year in addition to such member's
base pay; the annual payment shall commence upon the date upon which any such
member shall have completed six years of active service with such member's
department;
3. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than eight years and not more than ten years of active service in such member's
department shall receive the sum of $300.00 per year in addition to such member's
base pay; the annual payment shall commence upon the date upon which any such
member shall have completed eight years of active service with such member's
department;
4. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than ten years and not more than twelve years of active service in such member's
department shall receive the sum of $400.00 per year in addition to such member's
base pay; the annual payment shall commence upon the date upon which any such
member shall have completed ten years of active service with such member's
department.
5. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than twelve years and not more than fourteen years of active service in such
member's department shall receive the sum of $500.00 per year in addition to
such member's base pay; the annual payment shall commence upon the date upon
which any such member shall have completed twelve years of active service with
such member's department.
6. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than fourteen years and not more than sixteen years of active service in such
member's department shall receive the sum of $600.00 per year in addition to
such member's base pay; the annual payment shall commence upon the date which any
such member shall have completed fourteen years of active service with such member's
department;
7. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than sixteen years and not more than eighteen years of active service in such
member's department shall receive the sum of $700.00 per year in addition to
such member's base pay; the annual payment shall commence upon the date upon
which any such member shall have completed sixteen years of active service
with such member's department;
8. Any member of the Police Department who shall have had not less
than eighteen or more years of active service in such member's department shall
receive the sum of $800.00 per year in addition to such member's base pay; the
annual payment shall commence upon the date upon which any such member shall
have completed eighteen years of active service with such member's department.
SECTION II. It is intended that the eligibility for longevity pay and the
amount of longevity that is to be paid to each member of the Police Department
shall be determined as upon that date upon which such member shall have
completed three years of active service with such member's department, and upon
that same calendar date in each ensuing year thereafter.
SECTION III. It is further intended that any member of the Police Department
who has not accumulated three years of active service shall not be eligible
for longevity pay.
