A RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF LEESBURG TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY PROGRAM'S
RIPARIAN FOREST BUFFER DIRECTIVE NO. 03-01.
WHEREAS, the Chesapeake Bay Program Riparian Forest Buffer Directive No.
03-01 was signed by the Chesapeake Executive Council in December 2003; and
WHEREAS, this directive recognizes the importance of urban tree canopy cover;
and
WHEREAS, the directive will encourage measures to attain the established goals
in order to enhance and extend forest buffer function in urban areas; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg has completed an Urban Forestry
Management Plan that is in line with the goals of the Chesapeake Bay Program Directive;
and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Forestry has offered
assistance to the Town for participating in the program; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council feels that the increase of the urban tree canopy is
an important element to the quality of life for residents in Leesburg.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia
as follows:
SECTION I. The Town Council authorizes the Town of Leesburg to participate in
the Chesapeake Bay Program Riparian Forest Buffer directive No. 03-01.

SECTION II. The Town Manager is authorized to execute any and all of the
documents associated with the program.
