A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING $1,000 IN MATCHING FUNDS
FOR A "TREES PLEASE!" GRANT AWARD FROM MIDAMERICAN ENERGY
WHEREAS, The City of Riverdale, Iowa ("City") is a Municipal Corporation, organized and
operating under the laws of the State of Iowa, and;
WHEREAS, concerned citizens of Riverdale made an application to MidAmerican
Energy for a grant of $1,000 to pay for tree -planting in common areas such as publicly
owned properties and community spaces, and;
WHEREAS, if selected to receive an award, the municipality is required to match the
grant with a similar fund, and;
WHEREAS, the City's current budget for "Supplies and Plantings" for FY 20 is $500, and;
WHEREAS, the trees planted with this money will promote energy efficiency by providing
windbreaks and shade while beautifying the city -owned green spaces which meets
both the spirit and letter of the rules set by the granting body (MidAmerican Energy).
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RIVERDALE,
IOWA.
Section 1. The City Council of Riverdale hereby authorizes the expenditure of up to
$1,000 in matching funds for the purchase and planting of trees in accordance with the
rules set forth in the "Trees Please!" program sponsored by MidAmerican Energy;
Section 2. Citizens involved in selecting and planting the trees will inform the City
Council (through the Mayor or Administrator) of the number of trees purchased, the
locations where they are planted and date of the planting; and
Section 3. City staff will inform the appropriate sub -contractors of the location of the
trees and make sure they are tended properly.
