Health and Human Services Committee
December 17, 2008 at 7:00 PM
Present: George Pettengill, Jean Sears, Doris Franzago, Pat and Bill Mageean, Liz Jayes,
Deborah Blackman Jacobs and Vivian Cafarella.
The meeting was called to order at 7 PM by chairman, George Pettengill. The minutes of the
last meeting were accepted as presented.
George passed around Executive summaries of the 2008 Human Condition Study. All were
encouraged to study it.
The present officers were asked if they were willing to continue in their present positions.
They all agreed and were unanimously re-elected.
George read a letter from Together We Can, stating they now had a place for their
organization to use. However, the contracts are not signed, so no recommendation will be
made at this time.
Sonia Schonning, Interim Exec. Dir. , of Big Brothers Big Sisters of CC&I, made an
excellent presentation.
Following this, Catherine Macaulay, Executive Director of CC Children's Place, and
Elizabeth Aldred explained the benefits their organization supplies and showed us the great
need there is for their services.
After discussion, it was decided to recommend level funding ($2,000) for Big
Brothers/Sisters of CC. More discussion prompted a recommendation of $4,000 to the new
group, CC Children's Place.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45.
