A RESOLUTION: APPROVING AMENDMENTS TO THE FY 2007 GENERAL FUND
BUDGET, AND MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR $74,042
A WARDED THROUGH A DEPARTMENT OF mSTICE 2006
TECHNOLOGY GRANT AND $26,280 THAT THE DEPARTMENT
RECEIVED AS A RESULT OF A SETTLEMENT FOR DEFECTIVE
EQUIPMENT.
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice under its Fiscal Year 2006 budget has
awarded a Technology Grant to the Leesburg Police Department in the amount of $74,042; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has received a settlement of $26,280 from the Toyobo
Company L TD as a result of participation in a class action suit for defective body armor; and
WHEREAS the Leesburg Police Department, the Information and Technology Department
and the Town Manager has identified specific equipment purchases approved by the Department
of Justice to enhance the Police Department's communications effectiveness by replacing the
existing outmoded phone system with a state of the art Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) system
and the purchase of a field satellite communication system.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council ofthe Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows:
SECTION I. The FY 2007 General Fund Budget is hereby amended and an appropriation
is made in the amount of $1 00,322 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2006 and ending June 30,
2007, as follows to include the adjusted totals to the categories and accounts of the funds listed
below:

a. From the Department of Justice Technology Grant $ 74,042 is received and from a
settlement with Toyobo Company $26,280 is received and appropriations of$100,322
are made to the Police Department FY 2007 budget for the purchase of equipment to
improve and enhance the Police Department's effectiveness.
