RESOLUTION NO. 2007-17
A RESOLUTION: APPROVING THE TOWN OF LEESBURG TO APPLY FOR A
PRESERVE AMERICA MATCHING GRANT AND AUTHORIZING THE
TOWN MANAGER TO SIGN ANY RELATED DOCUMENTS
WHEREAS, Preserve America is a White House initiative developed in cooperation with
the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the U. S.
Department of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, the goals of this initiative include a greater shared knowledge about our
Nation's past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in
preserving the country's irreplaceable cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the
economic vitality of communities; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg received notice on November 3, 2006 of official
designation as a Preserve America community by the First Lady, Laura Bush, Honorary Chair of
Preserve America; and
WHEREAS, this designation recognizes Leesburg's preservation and enjoyment of the
Town's historical and cultural resources, celebrating an important part of the nation's heritage.
WHEREAS, Preserve America offers communities matching grants to support activities
related to heritage tourism and innovate approaches to the use of historic properties as
educational and economic assets; and
WHEREAS, Town staff would like to submit a grant application to Preserve America in
order to support the events and activities related to Leesburg Court and Market Days.

A RESOLUTION: APPROVING THE TOWN OF LEESBURG TO APPLY FOR A PRESERVE
AMERICA MATCHING GRANT AND AUTHORIZING THE TOWN
MANAGER TO SIGN ANY RELATED DOCUMENTS
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that;
SECTION 1. The Town will apply for a Preserve America grant in the amount of $20,000
to support the 2008 Court and Market Days event.
SECTION II. The Town will match the grant request in the amount of $20,000 to comply
with the dollar-for-dollar fund match requirement of the grant.
SECTION III. The Town Manager is hereby authorized to sign any related documents.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town of Leesburg will use these funds to further
protect and celebrate our heritage, use our historic assets for economic development and
community revitalization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic
resources through education and heritage tourism programs.
