FIXING RATE OF INTEREST TO BE CIIARGED
ON DELINQUENT TAXES AND ASSESSMENTS
IVIlEREAS, NJ.SA. 54:4-67 permits tile Governing Body of each municipality to fix tile rate ol
interest to be charged for non payment ofla×c~,' ,,r assessments subject to any abatement or discount
for tile late payment of taxes as provide,! .,y ', itlld
WIIEREAS, N.J.S.A.54:4-67 has been amended to pmmit the fixing of said rate 0['8% per annum
on the first $1,500.00 of the delinquency and 18% per annum oll any amount in excess of $1,500.00
and allows an additional penalty o1'6% to be collected against a delinquency in excess orS10,000.00
on in ope(ties that fail to pay the delinquency p~ ior to the end of tile calendar year;
NOW, TI1EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEI) by tile Mayor' and Council of the Borough o£Carteret
County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey as follows:
I) Tile Tax Collector is hereby authorized and directed to charge 8% per annum on the first
$1,500.00 o£taxes beconfing delinquent after dne (late ami 18% per annum ou auy reno(nit of'taxes
in excess of $1,500.00 beconfing delinquent after dne (late and if a delinquency is in excess o£
$10,000.00 and renmins in re(ears beyoml December 31st, and additional penalty of 6% shall be
charged against the delinquency.
2) Efl'ective January 1, 1996, there will be a ten (10) day grace period ofqumtedy tax payments
made by cash, check or money order.
3) Any payments not made in accordance with paragraph two (2) of this resolution shall be charged
interest from the due date as set Forth in paragraph one (1) of this resolntion.
4) This resolution shall be published iu its eutirety in an official newspaper of tile Borough of
Carte(et, anti a certified copy shall be provided to the Tax Collector', Boroogh Attoruey and Borough
Auditor.
Adopted this 1st day of January, 1996
and certified as a true copy of the
original on January 2, 1996.
