A RESOLUTION:
SUPPORT FOR AMERICA'S CUP OF POLO EVENT IN LEESBURG, IN
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VIRGINIA
WHEREAS, Leesburg and Loudoun County hold a strong position as a "horse country" destination
and expanding this position provides a sustainable tourism opportunity that is also supported by the Loudoun
Convention and Visitors Association (LeV A) and;
WHEREAS, the America's Cup of Polo event organizers have selected historic Morven Park in
Leesburg in Loudoun County as the site for the first ever international polo match featuring the United States
Official Polo team representing Jamestown 2007Nirginia is for Lovers against a British team and:
WHEREAS, due to the international aspect of the event, the increasing interest in polo in our
community and the capital investment made by Morven Park to build the polo field and berms and;
WHEREAS, the event organizers support the 250th Anniversary of Loudoun County in 2007 and will
promote the 250th Anniversary of Leesburg in 2008, with a second annual international polo event and;
WHEREAS, the positive and direct benefit of tourism activity in Leesburg is a reduction of the tax
burden to our residents and the opportunity to enjoy the many events and activities.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Lees burg in Virginia to support
America's Cup of Polo event on May 12,2007 at historic Morven Park in Leesburg, in Loudoun County
Virginia by authorizing expenditure up to $5,000 from the Economic Development budget to support
marketing and promotional efforts for this event.
