HomeMy Public PortalAbout2007_04_10_r067 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED April 10, 2007 RESOLUTION NO. 2007-67 ADOPTED April 10, 2007 A RESOLUTION: ESTABLISHING A GROUP OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE TOWN OF LEESBURG AND THE COUNTY OF LOUDOUN TO DISCUSS THE AGREEMENT, WHICH EXPIRES IN JANUARY 2009, REGARDING USE OF THE IDA LEE PARK AND RECREATION CENTER BY COUNTY RESIDENTS LIVING OUTSIDE OF THE TOWN CORPORATE LIMITS. WHEREAS, as part of the original funding that allowed construction of the Ida Lee Park Recreation Center facility, the initial construction cost was $5 million, of which, the County contributed $800,000; and WHEREAS, in exchange the Town agreed that County residents living outside the Town corporate limits would be charged the same fees and rates as Town residents for a period of 20 years; and WHEREAS, since that agreement will expire in January 2009, the Mayor and Town Council sent a letter to the Chairman of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors officially requesting the initiation of meetings with the County to discuss this matter; and WHEREAS, in a letter of response dated April 2, 2007, from the Chairman of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, Scott York, agreed to comply with the Town Council's request for discussions regarding the Ida Lee Park Recreation Center expansion and future usage agreement pertaining to the facility; and WHEREAS, Chairman York identified representatives from the COullty of Loudoun to participate in these discussions; and WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Leesburg has identified representatives from the Town to participate in these discussions. -2- A RESOLUL TION : ESTABLISHING A GROUP OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE TOWN OF LEESBURG AND THE COUNTY OF LOUDOUN TO DISCUSS THE AGREEMENT REGARDING USE OF IDA LEE PARK RECREATION CENTER BY COUNTY RESIDENTS LIVING OUTSIDE OF THE TOWN CORPORATE LIMITS, WHICH EXPIRES IN JANUARY 2009 THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. The following representatives from the County of Loudoun, as identified by Chairman Scott York, will participate in the discussions: Leesburg District Supervisor, Jim Clem; Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Sue Webb; the Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, Diane Ryburn; and Scott York, Chairman, Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. SECTION II. The following representatives from the Town of Leesburg, as identified by the Town Council, will participate in the discussions: Town Council Member Katie Hammier; Town Council Member Kevin Wright; Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, Terry Young; and Director of Parks and Recreation, Kaj Dentler.
