Meeting Minutes -April 30, 2008, 4:30 pm., Brewster Town Hall
In attendance: Members: Allin Thompson, Chuck Bartlett, Jane Harris, Larry Ballantine, Jillian
Douglass; Chris Miller; Guests: Bob Duncanson, Stuart Smith; Coordinator: Cazole Ridley.
Allin adjourned the meeting, which was held in lieu of the May 6`h meeting due to scheduling
conflicts.
Minutes of the April 1, 2008 were approved.
Carole introduced the topic of follow up correspondence to the Chatham Boazd of Selectmen
regarding improvement dredging, and thanked Stuart and Bob for being on hand. The Alliance
sent a letter to the Selectmen on April 17`h to clarify a response to a question from Mr. Whticomb
regarding dredging. Subsequently the letter was reported in the Chronicle with comments from
town officials that suggested further clarification and background should be provided. Jane and
Chuck wrote a letter to the editor in response. Cazole noted that Jane, Chuck, Allin as well as
Stuart and Bob had had conversations with Selectmen on the topic. Stuart and Bob explained
concerns that the Alliance not prevent efforts to seek improvement dredging if needed to
maintain navigation. Allin re-iterated the point that the Alliance is not a regulatory authority and
the prohibition is a state regulation. The committee reviewed a draft letter clarifying discussions
with state officials on the topic. Several modifications to the letter were recommended.
A motion was made by Chuck and seconded by Larry to approve and send the letter. The vote
was unanimous. It was also agreed that Chuck would be the Alliance spokesperson at the May
6`~ selectmen's meeting, and that Carole and Allin would be on hand.
The timing and logistics of upcoming town meetings was discussed, to ensure that there was
coverage should questions on the Alliance article come up.
Carole also reported on the status of the Cape Cod Water Protection Collaborative Grants, that
they aze moving forward. The CCWPC has not approved a reallocation of grant funds, but they
have agreed to alter the scope of the Muddy Creek grant to only include the resources
assessment.
A mini symposium is planned for June but. some data may not be entirely ready. Carole will try
to keep the date in June, if possible.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for June 3rd at 4:30 pm
at Brewster Town Hall.
