HomeMy Public PortalAbout2008_01_23_R022 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED January 23. 2008 RESOLUTION NO. 2008-22 ADOPTED January 23. 2008 A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING HOUSE BILL NO. 451 AMENDING VIRGINIA CODE TO INCLUDE ONE TOWN REPRESENTATIVE ON THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (NVTA) WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVT A) contributes to regional decisions on taxation and the funding of regional transportation improvement programs; and WHEREAS, the NVT A currently has no representation for the five towns located within its boundaries; and WHEREAS, the needs and concerns of towns differ from those of the counties that are represented on the NVT A because of their unique responsibility for highway maintenance and transportation improvements within their communities; and WHEREAS, at least one voting member - most appropriately, a mayoral representative- representing Northern Virginia towns on the NTV A is appropriate to contribute to regional decisions on taxation, as well as to properly advocate the respective transportation programs and needs of towns; and WHEREAS, House Bill 451 would amend Virginia Code Section 15.2-4832 to include one town representative to serve on the NVT A, thus providing some legitimate representation of Leesburg's interests, insofar as they coincide with the interests of other towns. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the Town Council supports House Bill 451 and any effort to add town representation to the NVTA. - 2 - A RESOLUTION: RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HOUSE BILL NO. 451 AMENDING VIRGINIA CODE TO INCLUDE ONE TOWN REPRESENTATIVE ON THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (NVTA) PASSED this 23rd day of January 2008. ~~ Town of Leesburg ---~----...
