HomeMy Public PortalAbout2008_01_23_R023 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED: January 23. 2008 RESOLUTION NO. 2008-23 ADOPTED: January 23. 2008 A RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING THE REPEAL OF ABUSIVE DRIVER FEES AND REPLACING THE LOST REVENUE WITH A F AIRL Y DISTRIBUTED AND STABLE REVENUE SOURCE WHEREAS, V ACo included in the 2008 Legislative Program a position that "if revenues are lost through repeal or statutory change of abusive driver fees, said revenues should be replaced with a statewide increase in the gasoline tax."; and WHEREAS, Governor Kaine has acknowledged that the revenue received from abusive driver fees has fallen short of the original projection and that the fee's effect on public safety is uncertain; and WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Council shares these concerns. THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia hereby requests the General Assembly to consider legislation that will repeal the abusive driver fees and replace the lost revenue with a stable revenue source that fairly distributes the burden across all users. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia expresses the need for consistent dollars to come back to Leesburg and other similar communities that face a heavy regional road impact.
